George Washington (1732-1799) was America’s first President. Before becoming President, he was a soldier. He is called the “Father of the Nation”.
John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) was the 35th president of the United States. He was born into one of America’s wealthiest families and parlayed an elite education and a reputation as a military hero into a successful run for Congress in 1946 and for the Senate in 1952.
Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968) was a minister and a leader in the fight for equality for African-Americans in the 1950s and 1960s. King received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. King was assassinated in April 1968, and continues to be remembered as one of the most lauded African-American leaders in history.
Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945) was President from 1933-1945. He took office during the Great Depression, a period when a quarter of the country had no jobs. He responded by creating a series of programs, which created jobs. He was an American statesman, author, explorer, soldier.
Barack Obama (born 1961) is the President of the United States and the first African-American President. Before being President, he gave a famous speech in 2004 and served as a Senator. He was elected President because many Americans thought he could bring hope and change to America.
Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865). He was an American politician and lawyer who served as the 16th President of the United States. He issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which eventually freed millions of slaves.
Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was the third American President from 1801-1809 and the author of the Declaration of Independence.
Thomas Edison (1847-1931) is most famous for inventing the first practical light bulb in 1879. He also invented many other things, including the phonograph and the movie camera. He built the world’s first electrical power plant. In 1869, Edison moved to New York City and developed his first invention, the Universal Stock Printer. In 1870, Thomas Edison devised for Western Union the quadruplex telegraph. By the early 1870s, Thomas Edison had acquired a reputation as a first-rate inventor.
Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922) is most famous for inventing a telephone in 1876. He also invented the gramophone, which was similar to Edison’s phonograph.
Albert Einstein (1879-1955) was a German-American physicist. He developed the theory of relativity. He later moved to United States and helped design the atomic bomb.
Mark Twain (1835-1910), whose real name was Samuel Clemens, was a famous American author. Many of his books, such as Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.
Henry Ford after a few trials building cars and companies, in 1903, Henry Ford established the Ford Motor Company. Simple to drive and cheap to repair, half of all cars in America in 1918 were Model T's.
