Atoms cannot be created, further divided nor destroyed. Chemical reactions simply change the way atoms are grouped together.
Atoms of one element are able to combine with atoms of other elements to form compounds. Compounds always have the same relative number of types of atoms.
The atoms of a specific element are different from those of any other element, allowing scientists to distinguish elements from one another based on physical characteristics.
