The Primary Data Sources
-
Observation Method
Direct Observation
Advantages
1.The data obtained reflect the actual behaviour of respondents
2.The researcher gets a clearer picture and better feeling of the situations for his study
Disadvantages
1.The respondent will not act his normal behaviour if he knows that he is being observed
2.The data collection process is cumbersome and tedious
-
Content Analysis
Advantages
1.High degree of disguise since the data is collected over the situation to be observed
2.High degree of observation specification and measurement
Disadvantages
1.Low ability to observe in natural setting because observation takes place after the behaviour has occurred
2.Potential of observation bias because human observer is involved in data collection process
Primary data is the data obtained by the researcher or the agent hired by the researcher. Primary data source is the source that presents first-hand information.
