Threats to Biodiversity
The tourists that visit don't know they need to be careful whilst walking on the corral so it can end up with people breaking the coral upsetting fishes homes and nests.
When chemical from agriculture or things like sewage get out to see they create a cloud over the coral meaning the phytoplankton don't get any photosynthesis.
Overfishing is a problem as it can lead to loss
of some species meaning the food chain is unbalanced.
Marine based pollution has a big effect on the coral as boats release oils fuels and chemical which effect the coral and can kill the fish in some circumstances but also when the boats drop there anchor if they aren't looking they could break the coral.
Higher temperature cause the coral stress causing them to expel zooxanthellae which mean they will loose the nutrients they need to survive and will eventually turn a bleached white and then die. This is expected to happen to all the coral by 2040.
Interdependence
The coral reef it home to 164 species of fish and coral including the red snapper, turtle and shark
The fish need the reef to shelter and they find the reef as a good breeding station as it provides protection.
The coral benefit form the nitrogen excreted by the fish and the
loose material of the bed behind is washed up on shore by shoals of fish.
Also the warm Tropical water are so clear the sun can photothyesis with the plankton so they can survive. All other part of the reef benefit from this as plankton are the main food source for fish.
Sustainable Management
They had set big lad crab in Andros to regenerate the crap population. Fishing is illegal here as well so it is the perfect location.
Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park is a place where they intend to grow and populate more coral and then plant them as a way of preserving growing and extending the coral population.
