THE STEAM MACHINE
Steam Machine, Use the power of steam to gnerate a continuous movement that can be used in machinery.
Provided a lot of mechanical energy.
The first use was for water pumps but soon it was also used by the textileindustry.
It was applied for transport: locomotives and navigation.

Power transmitted by the controlled circulation of pressurized fluid, usually a water-soluble oil or water–glycol mixture, to a motor that converts it into a mechanical output capable of doing work on a load.

TRANSPORT
LOCOMOTIVES
When heated, water turns to an invisible vapor known as steam. The volume of water expands as it turns to steam inside the boiler, creating a high pressure. The expansion of steam pushes the pistons that connect to the driving wheels that operate the locomotive.
RAILWAYS
It was the first mode of transportation powered by a pulling force.
It created jobs, made goods cheaper, helped to spread information faster and changed the countryside in a way that neither the canals nor the new roads had ever been able to do.

THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY
The transformation of wool was usually artisanal (spinning + weaving) in workshops controlled by guilds.
In the 18th century a new material was became very popular: COTTO. Cotton
clothes were lighter, easier to wash and were dyed in colourful patterns.
Imported from India, then english entrepreneurs decided to import raw cotton and produce cotton fabric in England.
THE IRON INDUSTRY
Iron needed a more calorific fuel than the usual charcoal. In 1709, coke was used in blast furnances to produce iron.

The main change that took place during the Industrial Revolution was that no longer people produced for themselves, but production became massive in order to sell in markets, (both domestic and foreign).

SEA AND GROUND TRAVEL
In 1847, steamboats could cross the Atlantic Ocean in just two weeks. the propellers further shortened these times.
