Under the employment act, a foreigner must have a valid work visa to be able to apply and work in Singapore. If someone wish to apply a foreign worker then
he or she, must apply for a work permit on their behalf before they can commence employment with the one hiring them
What are the different types of work passes
• Employment pass
– this employment pass is for skilled employees and at least tertiary level education, along with relevant work experience. This work pass was made for hiring of mostly managers, executives specialist and other skilled professionals
• Work permit
this employment pass is for unskilled workers with relevant work experience with no minimum monthly salary. This work pass was made for hiring workers from approved source countries working in the construction, manufacturing, marine shipyard, process or services sector
• S pass
– this employment pass is for mid skilled workers with relevant work experience, with diploma level of education with relevant work experience
monthly salary of not less than $2500. This work pass was made for hiring of major of the foreign workers coming to Singapore.
• Skilled professionals
• Semi skilled professionals
• Unskilled professionals
What are the differences between S pass and Employment pass
both passes allow foreigners to enter Singapore for work related reasons
Both passes are short term passes which mostly last from 1 to 3 years however it can be extended
The S Pass is mainly for unskilled and non-technical staff. They must have a minimum income of atleast $2500 a month
the employment pass holders are mostly foreign professionals in a specialised, executive or managerial role
mandatory conditions
S Pass holders and Employment Pass holders, Dependant's Passes can be applied for for legally married spouses
children under 21.
Both S and Employment Pass holders must earn at least $6000 per month to qualify for this
