Math's: Christmas Revision list
Collecting Like Terms
example: 5x+6+2x-4, you would add 5x and 2, and 6 and -4 because they have like terms. So the answer would be 7x+2
Multiplying Terms
Example: a x a. The answer would be a squared. If you had b x a the answer would be ba.
Multiplying Single Brackets
example: 3(a + 1). To solve this you can use the box method or you can do it in your head. the answer is 3a+3
Multiplying Double Brackets
Example: 3(a+4) 4(b+9). Do solve this you can use the box method or you can just do it in your head. to do it you would just do 3xa=3a and 3x4=12, so the answer to the first bracket is equal to 3a+12. You would do this to the 2nd bracket to finish this.
Solving Linear Equations
Example:2x + 3 = 6 -x. To do this you need to try and get rid of the 6 so you subtract it from both sides. so you are left with2x -3 = -x. then you need to try get rid of the 2x, so you subtract it from both sides. you are left with -3 = -x. so x is equal to 3.
