Hitler Becomes Chancellor
In 1933 Hitler was appointed Chancellor by President Paul Von Hindenburg. With this, Hitler was legally in control.
Hitler used his new power to make his country a totalitarian state. He banned all other parties and had all of his opponents arrested. Hitler created the SS and had all of his enemies murdered.

Why might Germans have put their faith in Hitler?
They put their faith in Hitler because up until this time, Hitler had proven to be a good man and everyone in the country had a lot of trust in him and believed what he did was good work.
Hitler used his newfound power to make everyone do what he wanted. He put almost all of the German people to work and gave the government authority over everything the people owned.
Hitler had power of the government and political aspects of Germany, but he wanted more. He wanted to totally be in charge of everything the Germans were entitled to.
Hitler got rid of everything negative ever written or spoken about Nazi life. He burned books, and turned all aspects of media into propaganda tools.
Self-Interest
He was doing all of this to his country with no regard for any of the people in it, he just wanted to be adored and seen as powerful.
Hitler made anti-Semitism very popular throughout the country. Even though Jews were a minority and didn't make up much of the population, he still targeted them and turned most of the people against them.
In 1933 Hitler made laws so that Jews did not have the basic rights and in 1938 he started to attack Jews on the streets and in their own homes.
With doing this he revealed that his plan all along was to wipe out the whole Jewish population in Europe, which we know as the Holocaust
What does Kristallnacht demonstrate about the power of the Nazis?
It demonstrates that Hitler wanted the Jews gone from Germany and he was willing to do whatever it took to get rid of them.

Hitler was a not well known political leader until World War One broke out, Hitler found a new beginning
He volunteered for the German army and was twice awarded the Iron Cross, a medal for bravery.

Hitler joined a group that believed that Germany had to overturn the Treaty of Versailles and combat communism.
The group later named itself the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, called Nazi for short.
The party nazis adopted the swastika, or hooked cross, as its symbol.
The Nazis also set up a private militia called the storm troopers or Brown Shirts.

Hitler’s success as an organizer and speaker led him to be chosen der Führer which is the leader of the Nazi party
Hitler believed that Germans, whom he incorrectly called “Aryans,” were a “master race.” He declared that non-Aryan “races,” such as Jews, Slavs, and Gypsies, were inferior.
What personal characteristics helped Hitler gain success as a leader ?
He was very self confident and felt as if he was superior, he had a commanding personality.
Inspired by Mussolini’s march on Rome, Hitler and the Nazis plotted to seize power in Munich in 1923.
Hitler was then arrested, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison but only ended up serving less than 9 months
While Hitler was in jail and wrote a book called My Struggle. This book explained he beliefs and goals for Germany.
The economic effects of the Great Depression helped Hitler’s cause, as the German people were also desperate for a strong leader who would improve their lives.
Hitler wanted Germany to regain the land they lost, he wanted to gain this land back from imperialism.
What did Hitler believe were the rights and duties of the German master race?
They were far more superior than any other race. They wanted to regain land and make Germany the best country and get rid of the Jews.

Why did Mousolini’s popularity increase as Italy’s economy declined?
Answer- He offered leadership and change. And they put their faith in Hitler because he put people to work and revived the economy.
Many lost faith in the democratic government and turned to fascism. Political and social factors led to the fall of several European democracies in the 1920s and 1930s.
Roosevelt's New Deal brought to reinvigorate the economy by stimulating consumer demand. The New Deal embraced federal deficit spending to promote economic growth
Does Fascism or Communism seem to be more concerned with the welfare of the people?
Answer- communism seems to be more concerned with welfare of the people becuse facsism is the difference in class and communism is more equal class.
Fascism as a form of government stresses authoritarian leadership and the absolute control of production by the State.
The fear of communism added to the appeal of fascism in Italy and German because, the people had seen what communism had done to Russia.
For large numbers of Italians, an oppressive fascist regime brought economic hardship and/or a loss of basic human rights.
