- - - - In 1919, after Hitler settled in Munich, he joined a small right-wing political group.
        
        Shortly after Hitler's success as a speaker and organizer led him to be chosen der Führer, or leader for the Nazi.
        
        The Nazi's were inspired by Mussolini's march on Rome, so they attempted to seize power in Munich. The attempt failed and Hitler got arrested.
        
        After he got out of prison in 1924, Hitler brought the Nazi Party back. Most Germans had ignored his angry message until the Great Depression hit. The Economic effects from the Great Depression helped Hitler's cause become more popular, because the German people were desperate for a strong leader.
        
        He was tried for treason but his sentence was only five years, he only served nine months.
        
        When Hitler was in jail he wrote "Mein Kampf" (My Struggle). This book was about his beliefs and his goals for Germany. Hitler wrote that Germans, whom he incorrectly called "Aryans" were a "master race". He said that the races that weren't Aryans, such as; Jews, Gypsies, and Slavs, were inferior. He had called the Treaty of Versailles an outrage and vowed to regain Germany land.
