Hitler Rises to Power in Germany
At the end of the war, Hitler settled in Munich. In 1919, he joined a tiny right-wing political group.
This group shared his belief that Germany had to overturn the Treaty of Versailles and combat communism.
Hitler’s success as an organizer and speaker led him to be chosen as leader of the Nazis.
Hitler was arrested. He was tried for treason but was sentenced to only five years in prison.
What personal characteristics helped Hitler gain success as a leader ?
Hitler’s organizing skills and speaking skills led him to success. Hitler could manipulate huge audiences with his fiery oratory.
While in jail, Hitler wrote Mein Kampf (My Struggle). This book set forth his beliefs and his goals for Germany.

The Nazi's were the largest political party by 1932, conservatives leaders believed they could control Hitler and use him for their purposes.
Hitler came to power in 1933. He called for new elections hoping to win a parliamentary majority
6 days before the election a fire destroyed the building where the parliament met.
The Nazi's blamed the communists for the fire.
By stirring up fear of the communists, the Nazi's and their allies won by a small majority
He turned Germany into a totalitarian state, and banned all other parties.
The SS(police) arrested all of his opponents, this kind of action shocked most Germans into total obedience
The Nazi's took command of the economy, including transportation and technology.
New laws were putting many of Germans to work. they built factories, highways, served in the military, etc.
Hitler still wanted more control, so he tunred radios, newspapers, etc into propganda tools.

Answer: He was politically and organizationally talented, and they trusted him to get rid of the Jews

The Nazis had become the largest political party by 1932.
In January 1933, they advised President Paul von Hindenburg to name Hitler Chancellor.
Once in office, Hitler called for new elections.

Hitler used his power to turn Germany into a totalitarian state. He banned all other political parties and had opponents arrested. In 1934, the SS arrested and murdered hundreds of Hitler's enemies.
Beginning in 1933, the Nazis passed laws depriving Jews of most of their rights. Violence against Jews mounted. On the Night of November 9, 1938, Nazi movs attacked Jews in their homes and on the streets and destroyed thousands of Jewish-owned buildings. This rampage, called Kristallnacht, signaled the real start of the process of eliminating the Jews from German life.
Hitler's "Final Solution" plan was to eliminate and exterminate the Jewish population in Europe, which later became known as the Holocaust.

It shows how the Nazis came do what they please, and cause great harm to many people. They showed Europe and the Jewish people the strength they possessed and the terror they could cause.

They put their faith in him because he controlled every aspect of their lives. They were conditioned to believe and follow him because of the propaganda that he made them consume.
