- - - - They cause communicable disease
      - Communicable diseases are diseases that can spread
      - Both plants and animals can be infected by pathogens.
      - The four main types of pathogens are:
        
        Fungi
        
        Protists
        
        Viruses
        
        Bacteria
      - These are microoganisms that enter the body and cause disease
      - How Pathogens spread
        
        Water - They can be picked up by drinking/bathing in dirty water
        
        Air - Can be carried in air, can be breathed in, can be carried in the air in droplets made when you cough or sneeze.
        
        Direct Contact - Some can be picked up touching surface they are on (e.g. the skin).
  - - - Type of bacteria, caused by food poisoning.
      - Symptoms can be fever, stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea, these are caused by toxins.
      - You can get salmonella by:
        
        Eating food that has got Salmonella food poisoning in it already, e.g. eating chicken that caught the disease while it was alive.
        
        Eating food that has been made where the bacteria is present, e.g. in an unclean kitchen or on the hands of the person making the food.
        
        Most poultry in UK are given vaccinations against salmonella.
