A Mixed Methods Research Approach to Exploring Teacher Participation in an Online Social Networking Website

35 secondary school teachers with an interest in technology in the classroom, MOE’s competition participants, and referrals from participants were studied throughout a five-month period.

Participant observation: to gain insights into Google analytics inputs of digital talks and texts, photographs, videos, slideshows, and hyperlinks.

Quantitative Data

Observations: researchers did a social network analysis and inspection of descriptors from Google analytics, with the help of statistical inference.
Qualitative Data
In depth Interviews: were analyzed by discourse
analysis tailored for online discussions. In this way, insights were provided concerning the Social Networking Sites used.
There was no need for transcription of the interviews because the data was saved in the SNS. And the analysis was done with raw data to save time and effort.
Participant observation: examination of descriptors from
Google analytics through a social network analysis.
