Democratic Values
Types of GOVERNMENT:
Dictatorship: where the country is ruled by one person or group, known as all-powerful. Often associated with communism.

One-Party state: where only one political party exists and runs the country, also associated with communism.

Rights, Duties, Equalities and Freedom
RIGHTS: are the legal, social and ethical entitlements that are considered to be the building block of society. They structure how our governments operate. (human rights)
RESPONSIBILITIES: relate to duties that are placed upon citizens. They are entitled on them and are expected to be done without fail. (taxes)
FREEDOMS: the power or right to speak, act or think as you like. (Freedom of speech)
The RULE OF LAW: is a doctrine which states that everyone, including leaders such as the Queen or PM, hast to obey the law.

An electoral system where there is a secret ballot and the result is a reflection of their views. The result must also be accountable

The Judiciary is separate from the Gov and citizens can use the legal process to hold the Gov to account

Direct Democracy
A system of Gov. where all citizens take part in decision making. A modern example of this is the use of referendums
Liberal Democracy
A system of the government based on representative democracy and linked to freedoms and rights for citizens. USA, UK and EU follow this type of democracy
Democracy
A system of Gov based on the the consent of the people through an open, fair electoral. This reflects the opinions and views of the citizens of the country.
Representative Democracy
A system of government where citizens are elected to represent others in an assembly. A UK example would be a MP or a Councillor
