BLOOD CIRCULATION - Coggle Diagram
BLOOD CIRCULATION
Pulmonary circulation
-
-
How does it occur?
-
The right ventricle contracts, and pumps blood through the pulmonary arteries
-
In the capillaries, the gas exchange occurs: the blood takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide.
The returning blood passes from the capillaries to the pulmonary veins, which take blood to the left atrium of the heart.
Systemic circulation
-
During this movement, blood takes in oxygen and picks up carbon dioxide and other waste substances produced during cellular respiration.
How does it occur?
-
-
-
In the small intestine, blood picks up nutrients through absorption.
In the capillaries, blood releases oxygen and nutrients, and collects carbon dioxide and waste substances.
Finally, blood returns to the right atrium of the heart through the vena cava.
What is it?
-
Blood circulation distributes nutrients, releases oxygen through the body and picks up waste substances.
