Ammonium Thioglycolate Relaxer
Components
4-6% thioglycolate acid or it's derivatives and 1% ammonium hydroxide
pH 8.5-9.5 cream base usually added
Types of Hair
mild relaxer
healthy, colour treated hair, fine-textured or porous hair
regular relaxer
curly to medium-textured hair
Super relaxer
tightly curled or coarse-textured or resistant hair
Process
disulphide bond breaks b/w two sulfur in cysteine amino acid
first applied to most resistant area,
1/4 to 1/2 from scalp to porous ends
product applied to base last due to body heat
rinse off with WARM WATER
DO NOT SHAMPOO PRIOR TO RELAXER
Need dry hair and scalp
USE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AS NEUTRALIZER
Relaxing permanently waved hair
USE THIOGLYCOLATE RELAXER
