Nervous system Per.5 Aaron Hernandez
Major functions of nervous system
Major division and subdivision of the nervous system
Tissues
epithelial tissues
simple columnar-protect underlying tissues, secrete digestive fluids, and absorb nutrients
stratified squamos-makes up the outer layer of skin (epidermis), and lines the mouth, esophagus, vagina, and anal canal
simple cubodial- functions in urine formation in the kidneys, and glandular secretion
stratified cuboidal- provides greater protection than a single cell layer
Simple squamos- exchanges of gases in the alveoli of the lungs, and lines blood and lymph vessels, as well as body cavities
pseudoscience columnar- In the respiratory tract, the mucus traps dust and microorganisms, and the cilia sweep them away from the airways
muscular tissues
skeletal-skeletal muscles move head, trunk, and limbs
smooth-found in the walls of hollow internal organs, such as in the digestive tract, blood vessels, and urinary bladder
cardiac- found only in the heart and pumps blood through heart and into blood vessels
connective tissue
dense-withstands pulling forces and is found in tendons, ligaments, deep layer of skin, and the white layer of the eyebal
dense-withstands pulling forces and is found in tendons, ligaments, deep layer of skin, and the white layer of the eyebal
adipose-found under skin, between muscles, around kidneys, around abdominal membranes, behind eyeballsCushions joints & organs, stores energy, insulates body
reticular-forms a framework for certain internal organs in the liver and spleen
bone- stores and releases chemicals, such as calcium and phosphorus
blood-transport substances throughout the body
membranes
cutaneous membrane a dry membrane that is keratinized for protection and water-proofing
serous membranes-consist of simple squamous epithelium and a layer of areolar connective tissue
mucous membrane-Consist of some type of epithelium and a layer of areolar connective tissue
Classification of neurons
connective tissue covering
Cranial nerves
major parts and functions of the brain
Major parts and functions of the spinal cord
Spinal cord
Action potential and nerve impulses
Neurotransmitter
compare and contrast the autonomic nervous system
reflex arc
disorders associated with nervous system
