        Maxillary division - sensory fibers conduct impulses from the upper teeth, upper gum, upper lip, lining of palate, and skin of the face
        
        Mandibular division - sensory fibers conduct impulses from the skin of the jaw, lower teeth, lower gum, and lower lip
        
        Ophthalmic division - sensory fibers conduct impulses from the surface of the eyes, tear glands, scalp, forehead, and upper eyelids
    - - Vestibular branch - sensory fibers conduct impulses associated with the sense of equilibrium/balance
      - Cochlear branch - sensory fibers conduct impulses associated with the sense of hearing

      - Motor fibers move the eyes

      - Sensory fibers conduct impulses from the pharynx, tonsils, posterior tongue, and carotid arteries
        Motor fibers conduct impulses to the pharynx in order to swallow

      - Motor fibers conduct impulses to muscles that raise the eyelids, move eyes, adjust the light getting to the eyes, and focus lenses
      - Some sensory fibers conduct impulses associated with the condition of muscles
    - - Mixed nerve
      - sensory fibers associated with speech and swallowing; autonomic motor fibers conduct impulses to the heart, smooth muscle, and glands in the thorax and abdomen
        Sensory fibers conduct impulses from the pharynx, larynx, esophagus, and viscera

      - Cranial branch conducts impulses to the soft palate, pharynx, and larynx
      - Spinal branch conducts impulses to the muscles of the neck and back

      - Motor fibers conduct impulses to muscles that move the tongue

        Thalamus

        Lastly it produces the general awareness of sensation such as pain, touch, and temperature
        
        Hypothalamus
        
        It regulates hbp, blood pressure, body temp, hunger, and body weight
        
        It also helps regulate hormones specifically in the pituitary gland
        
        Maintains homeostasis by regulating a variety of visceral activities
    - - Made of 2 hemispheres connected by the Vermis
      - The white matter on the inside is called the Arbor Vitae
      - Coordinates skeletal muscular activity
      - The main functions are to integrate sensory info about the position of body parts, maintains posture, and ensures movement occurs in the desired manner
    - - Consists of 2 hemispheres which are exactly the same
      - Contains the cerebral cortex (thin layer of grey matter) and beneath that lies a mass of white matter
      - largest portion of the brain, associated with higher mental functions, & sensory and motor functions
      - Contains the Broca's motor speech area, it is responsible for the motor functions required to talk
    - - Coordinates and regulates visceral activities, and connects different parts of the nervous system
      - Consists of three parts:
        
        Pons
        
        Located between the Midbrain and the Medulla Oblongata
        
        Contains centers that help regulate the rate and depth of breathing
        
        Medulla Oblongata
        
        Transmits all ascending and descending impulses between the brain and the spinal cord
        
        Contains nuclei that control visceral functions like heart rate, blood pressure, and rate/depth of breathing
        
        Midbrain
        
        Located between the diencephalon and pons
        
        Contains motor pathways between the cerebrum and the lower portions of the nervous system
      - It lies at the base of the cerebrum and connects the cerebrum, diencephalon, and cerebellum to the spinal cord
