At first someones, limbic system looks at what's around the person to see if there are threats or rewards around them. Then, if the intensity of the conflict is great enough the person can experience Amygdala hijacking. This means the person can no longer access the prefrontal cortex which regulates decision making, empathy, problem-solving, and more. When this all happens that person will have either a fight, flight, or freeze response. Finally, the thalamus interprets what happens and this is what leads to wrong assumptions as the brain makes a story even not with all the parts of it.
