-
Igneous - created by volcanic activity when magma or lava cools, forming rocks made of hard crystals. - tough and resistant to erosion
-
-Igneous rocks can be found mainly in upland areas in Scotland, in the Lake District in North West England and Snowdonia in North Wales and Northern Ireland.
Sedimentary - formed of small particles that have been eroded, transported and deposited - in layers or from thr remains of plants or animals. - variable resistance to erosion.
-Characteristical include layers, and fossils.
-E.g. sandstone, limestone, clay, chalk.
-
Metamorphic - existing rocks which have been changes by extreme pressure or heat, comprised of layers or bands of crystals that are very hard. - ver very tough to erosion

Many human activities increase the rate at which natural processes, such as weathering and erosion, shape the landscape. The cutting of forests exposes more soil to wind and water erosion. Pollution such as acid rain often speeds up the weathering, or breakdown, of the Earths rocky surface.

Human activity
centuries of farming and human settlements change the surface in many ways including the type of vegetation that grows the depth and health of the soil the depth and health of the soil the drainage pattern the ability to travel through an area and the nature of the surface itself

construction activity - usually is sign that areas are becoming landscape cranes on the skyline and scaffolding being erected

Dartmoor
-
an example of which is is Dartmoor in Devon, southwest of England
this is impermeable and encourages water to stay on the surface, which produces areas of Boggy land called Mires.
the weathering of the Rock by slightly acidic rainwater causes the slow chemical decomposition of some of the minerals within the granite when they're exposed to it.
the result is that the most resistant areas of rock stand out on the tops of the hills as distinctive rounded features: the famous tors
the stone is also used to build the dry stone walls that fence in the sheep that graze them moor along with the Dartmoor ponies.
the more is used by the military as a suitably challenging place to test their skills of navigation and survival
