Challenges
Transport
Journey time from Leeds to London would normally take 2 hours but with the addition of HS2 the journey only takes 1hour 20mins.
Air pollution from congestion was third worst in the UK. To help they provided more cycle lanes. Only 18% of people travel via public transport.
Waste Management
Over 150,000 Tones of waste a year of which 44% is recycled. There was a reduction in waste collection from houses to fortnightly due to budget cuts.
Housing
There are unfortunately 24,000 people on the waiting list for houses. That is that less than the national average of those who own a house.
There are plans to make housing more affordable especially to help students. Student have made leaps to reduce the rent on houses. But the problems lye that the houses aren't well looked after by the student who are working the whole time.
There has been a rise in gated communities which instinctively makes richer people want to hide away form the town.
Inequality
Third highest inequality in the UK. Holbeck 15%
on jobseekers allowance, only 0.2% in Westwood. So people aren't so willing to work or live here.
Entertainment

Yorkshires tourism has put in efforts to raise money they can use to improve the name of the area e.e.g Tour de France which started in Leeds in 2014
