wave and vibration
transverse waves: motion in which all points on a wave oscillate along paths at right angles to the direction of the wave's advance
longitudinal waves: consisting of a periodic disturbance or vibration that takes place in the same direction as the advance of the wave
mechanical waves: an oscillation of matter, and therefore transfers energy through a medium
electromagnetic waves: consists of waves of the electromagnetic field, propagating through space, carrying electromagnetic radiant energy
medium of propagation: solid, liquid, gas
wave: a propagating dynamic disturbance of one or more quantities, sometimes as described by a wave equation.

behavior of waves
refraction: the change in direction of a wave passing from one medium to another or from a gradual change in the medium
reflection: the change in direction of a wavefront at an interface between two different media so that the wavefront returns into the medium from which it originated
interference: a phenomenon in which two waves superpose to form a resultant wave of greater, lower, or the same amplitude
