Global Deforestation Solutions
Enforce more laws and fines
Weaknesses
People with a large amount of power may choose to ignore these rules
Not everyone may agree with laws/regulations therefore enforcing them may be difficult
Opportunities
Large organizations can be encouraged to use more environmentally friendly timber collection methods. (Forest rotations)
If enforced laws become successful, governments may be able to enforce even more laws to help the environment.
Strengths
People would be more inclined to follow laws as to avoid heavy fines.
Local governments may gain small financial boosts from fines made against individuals and originations breaking the new laws
Threats
Only certain government bodies may agree to new laws, this could lead to political rivalry
Ingeniousness people and locals may become hostile as they lose the right to timber and harvest local trees
Plant more trees
Weaknesses
There may not be enough volunteers/workers to plant the required amount of trees
Planting trees will be very expensive and time consuming
Strengths
Newer trees will begin to absorb carbon
Would help regrow the worlds destroyed forest and provide more natural habitats for animals
Opportunities
Old forests can be restored
Creates job opportunities as regular tree planters will be needed
Threats
Planting new trees won't be as affective as keeping old trees, as carbon is still being released intro the air.
Some countries may refuse to partake in restoring trees and instead may cause more forestry harm.
Regular patrols
Weaknesses
Supporting regular patrols would be very costly to local governments and would take away from their spendable budget
May be unsafe for staff as gangs may threaten the employees on the patrol.
Opportunities
Patrol jobs will become available.
During patrols, surveys of the forest can be taken to gain insight into the overall health & biodiversity in the area.
Strengths
If done correctly, illegal deforestation would become almost impossible.
Natural forests could also be maintained and monitored to ensure optimal overall health for the trees.
Threats
Certain patrol officers may take bribes and turn a blind eye to any high paying individual or organizations
Certain counties may lose a vast amount of income from global trade.
Educate people
Opportunities
If successful, other large environmental campaigns could be carried out and executed the same way.
People may gain more interest in environmental careers
Threats
Students may find education less interesting, therefore drop out and ignore lessons
Would take class time away for students and their usual academic studies
Weaknesses
People may not care despite education making them aware of the harm being done.
Rural/less developed countries may not have the time, money, or technology to educate it's population
Strengths
This would be relativity easy to introduce. eg extra lessons in school or adverts over the internet
Wouldn't be very expensive
Combination of all 4
