Internal Migration- Brazil
push and pull factors
push
mechanisation in brazil's agricultural industries have caused a lot of people to be let off at their farming jobs and be replaced by machinery
much of the farmland in rural brazil has been amalgamated by larger companies meaning there is less competition and often farmers are left without jobs
working conditions are often much poorer in rural areas meaning many want to move because they aren't getting paid enough or at all
there is mass desertification in northern brazil along with mass deforestation, meaning much of the farmland is starting to become unfarmable and farmers are losing their livelihoods
social conditions are often worse in rural communities meaning that people have to move to big cities in order to get healthcare access and eduaction
pull
higher paying jobs- in brazil urban areas have a higher likely hood of having paying jobs
better healthcare and education services- this factor is especially important for migrants with children who go into these places in order for their children to have a better life, there are clear divides in healthcare and educational services between rural brazil and urban brazil
favelas housing- in the rural areas in brazil some of the housing is worse than the housing provided by the favelas
retail prices- often urban brazil has a wider variety of goods for cheaper meaning families who come to urban cities can afford a wider range of goods that they couldn't in their rural communities
access to internet- access to internet and other online services is often exclusive to urban brazil meaning in order to have access to these services many have to move to urbanised cities

favelas
favelas are slums outside of the major cities in brazil where poor people, who normally have moved to the city from rural communities, live in order to work in the big cities.
issues with favelas
crime rates are really high due to the large number of people in one concentrated area, thefts gang rapes and murder are not uncommon in these slums and are a big issue for its residents
favelas are normally housing built without permits or any planning meaning a lot of the houses are unsafe, have low organisation and often expand dangerously into large spaces around the city
they also have very poor sanitation as a result of the lack of planning meaning diseases can often run though these favelas without any barriers, this can cause issues when these diseases spread throughout the city
education rates for children living in these areas is very low, healthcare and public services are non-existent meaning many poor residents aren't able to get access to basic needs.
