Because there is a lot of trade by sea, and other cultures far away can get access to sea easier, and so you would have goods you wouldn't previously have access to.

Conquered towns, usually in the Balkans.
Differences between Shia and Sunni
They believed in different heirs.
Sunnis wanted Abu Bakr to be Caliph of the post-Muhammad caliphates.
Shiites believe leaders of Islam must be a relative of Muhammad, while Sunnis don't.

Long Story Short: Islam
I thought jihad meant holy war.
I was surprised that he used Arab in a broad sense, since it usually just refers to Middle Easterners south of Turkey, west of Iran, and east of Morrocco and no more southern than Algeria.
25% of the world.
Rick Steve's Turkey
Turkey is a mix of Arabs, Persians, Europeans, nomads, Turkic people, Mongols, Central Asians, Kurds tatars, and maybe a couple other ethnicities I missed.
The Turkish government pays Imam's wages, which means Turkey is a semi-theocracy, which was surprising to me since I figured they were more of a secular government.
Muslim Holidays
Eid Al-Fitr is for eating a lot of food and marks the end of Ramadan.
Laylat Al-Qadr is believed to be the time the first verses of the Quran were written.
Ramadan is a month of fasting and doing good deeds in general such as giving to charity etc..
Eid Al-Adha is a holiday celebrating Abraham's obedience to God when he was about to sacrifice Isaac however God stops him.
Islam: Spreading Trade
When trade declines, the overall number of goods getting brought in decreases, prices rise, this is shown, for example, by the Iraqi Embargo imposed in 1990, oil prices went up two times over for occupied Kuwait.
A decrease in trade would make an empire less strong because it means that less other innovative ideas from other cultures.
Trade enriches people by allowing people to exchange goods and services which are beneficial to both of them.
Similarities between Islam and Christianity
Both believe in the Second Coming of Jesus.
Both originated in the Middle East.
Both are Abrahamic religions which believe in Jesus, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, etc..
