Genetics - Coggle Diagram
Genetics
Develop and use a model to show that sexually reproducing organisms have two of each chromosome in their cell nuclei, and hence two variants (alleles) of each gene that can be the same or different from each other, with one random assortment of each chromosome passed down to offspring from both parents.

alleles - a version of a gene, you get one allele from each parent
Bothead - The bothead experiment done in class shows how genetics are passed down from our parents. We randomly picked what gene would be passed down like what happens from parent to child in real life. Some genes were also mutated but we did not get to choose what genes would or would not be mutated.
Communicate through writing and in diagrams that chromosomes contain many distinct genes and that each gene holds the instructions for the production of specific proteins, which in turn affects the traits of an individual.
genes - the basic physical and functional unit of heredity. Made up of DNA . Every person has 2 copies of of each gene, from each parent.
-
chromosomes - A structure of nucleic acids and proteins found in the nucleus of living cells, carrying genetic information in the form of genes.
-
-
Encyclopedia Analogy - A series of books showing the different chromosomes in our body storing the information of each one
A mutation is like another page added into the encyclopedia, but not everyone has one only sometime the page will be added based of if your genes have mutations or not

Communicate information about artificial selection / the ways humans have changed the inheritance of desired traits in organisms
Homology Repair - A template DNA gene that scientists use to repair genes. CRISPER is used to remove a defective gene, the normal guide for gene repair fails to fix the missing gene. HDR can be put into the missing gene so they can correctly repair the missing gene.
Anti - Malaria Gene - Scientists want to use the gene mosquitos carry of anti malaria to make humans immune to the Malaria disease.
Glow Gene- This is a green glowing protein that gives the skin glowing melanin. Some jellyfish have this gene called green fluorescent protein. THis geen can help to locate you missing animals, or to keep animals safe.
-
Develop and use a model to describe that structural changes to genes (mutations) may or may not result in changes to proteins, and if there are changes to proteins there may be harmful, beneficial, or neutral changes to traits.

Construct an argument based on evidence for how asexual results in offspring with identical genetic information and sexual reproduction results in offspring with genetic variation. Compare and contrast advantages and disadvantages of asexual and sexual reproduction.
-
-
Construct an argument based on evidence for how environmental and genetic factors influence the growth of organisms.
Both genetics and environmental factors influence how we will turn out because things like stress or sun exposure will have more things like wrinkles show, but a stress free environment can help to give you a wrinkle free face. Genetics are the main reason for you height, skin color, and hair color. Therefore showing genetics can give you defined things passed down from your parents.
Use a model to describe the process of natural selection, in which genetic variations of some traits in a population increase some individuals' likelihood of surviving and reproducing in a changing environment. Provide evidence that natural selection occurs over many generations.
