Identifying and helping a struggling student by Eleanor Nias
A student that distracts others

Find out what the student enjoys and make the task more individual when possible
Reading difficulty

Give more than one example / video / picture and text
Disconnecting from assignments and teacher

Ask student questions that come natural with a positive answer or if the student only answers with "no" as leading questions in which they have to think more.

Try and get over and see if student is on task or needs extra help

Talk to the student to see when he/she will try and what is too much. Find a way to simplify task to get the student to feel like he/ she can achieve small goals.

Is it just my subject or in others? Talk to other teachers.
Ask parent if this is an often occurance

Angry towards teacher or other students
Try talking to the student with a councillor present
Ask about home life? Talk with parents

Add in physical activity to the class. A quick ball game/ some star jumps. Most classes are sat down the whole time.
High phone usage
How can the teacher re engage the student without banning the phone?
Attention seeking behaviour
Try and find the cause? Ask if the student is the same in other classes
