      - Hall's "Othello and the Problem of Blackness" makes a similar point to this, emphasizing that the race of Othello is a factor in the play and that choosing not to acknowledge its presence or possible influence is "to liberate the reader from considering that history" (that is, of race in Shakespeare's time and the way race as a symbol/meaning-making device might have shaped the experience of a black man in that history)
