Sci-fi
Space
Robots
Super Tech
Dystopia/Utopia
The common setting for lots of sci-fi stuff, it is the next frontier in human exploration that people are constantly dreaming about
Very Popular
Overdone
This is very interesting but I don't feel it connects well to the theme and it would be a quite limiting setting if I want my character to be 'ordinary' without redefining the word in a new context.
Another common setting for sci-fi media, wherein the world in the future is either unimaginably better/worse.
Pretty unappealing, obviously as these extremes are far from ordinary, making them just regular extraordinary and not a cool contrasting extraordinary.
My world would have to be a pretty standard modern world
Allows creativity
Forces kind of a lot of worldbuilding
Both a setting and plot device, Super Tech in sci-fi media allows the impossible to happen if you hit the right amount of suspension of disbelief
It has to be vague to be plausible, but that doesn't really limit the game at all, it just can't be a very realism-heavy game
Can't be too advanced, or it's too hard to conceptualise. Has to be explainable in layman's terms, so maybe our main character can't be hugely connected to technology in any way
The main character could have a behind-the-scenes role within a tech company, receiving no glory or reward. Extraordinary
A cool idea would be the main character having a boring role in interesting business.
Robots are pretty plausible, as we are constantly seeing revolutionary leaps in robotics, both as independent devices and as human augmentation
This makes them worthy of the 'extraordinary' contrast
Robots can be humanoid or non-humanoid, and either can be cute or scary
Scary robots are extremely common in horror media, cute robots are extremely common in children's media or also in horror media as a shock tactic
The coolest robots are all humanoid-ish e.g. Transformers, Real Steel, FNAF
A cool link to 'extraordinary' could be if the robots are made of every-day electronics, adding the desired contrast and coolness
