5 elements of short story
Setting
When and where the story happens. It helps to create the atmosphere of the story. (When: In January, During the afternoon, At night. Where: At school, at home, in the living room.)
Characters
The animal or person that portrays the story.
Dynamic: The character who changes (From good to bad/bad to good)
Static: The character who does not change throughout the story
Flat: The character who is easy to describe and predict. Displays and possesses a few traits.
Protagonist: The good guy. Is usually the one who is exploited/encounter problems in the story.
Round: The character who is hard to describe and predict. Possesses lots of quality and emotions
Antagonist: The bad guy. Causes suffering and problems to the other characters that are in the story
Conflict
The problem that needs to be resolved in the story
Can be internal and external
Internal: When the conflict is caused by the character's limitations or weaknesses
External: When the conflict is caused by other factors
Man VS Man: The conflict is caused by another character
Man vs Nature: The problem is caused by an unexpected event in the environment
Man vs Society: The problem is caused by the rules or beliefs that exists in a society
Plot
The list or sequences of events in a story
Exposition: The introduction of the characters and conflict
Rising action: The conflict starts to get worse and the main character is at a crisis state.
Climax: The most breathtaking moment of the story. It shows the most challenging moment of the main character
Falling action: Shows the consequences of the conflict. The conflict starts to die down
Ending: Shows what happen to the main character after the conflict is resolved and it will leave the readers in a certain emotion such as sad, mad, disappointed, happy, etc.
