This is the one of the art styles that I would like to use as a reference which is from soul knight but I am still unsure of what kind of colour palette I want to use and it is drawn in pixel art . I am torn between a darker tone or a brighter tone

This is from Crypt the NecroDancer and it also has a brighter colour palette which sways me more towards that side as I think that it emphasizes that the game is in a fantast world and it is again drawn in pixel art . Furthermore, darker tones tend to be used for more serious games or more realistic games

This is from Spelunky 2 which again has a brighter colour palette and I realised that there aren't a lot of roguelike games that have taken the darker colour palette route.This has made me decide on giving my game a brighter tone to as I think that it will be more eye catching that way and more pleasing to look at

Lykos is a hunter?
Maybe he is a guild and hunters are sent out to quests that the guilds give them. They are also tasked with clearing dungeon because if they are left uncleared monsters will start coming out
He was sent out to do a quest from the guild which was to clear this dungeon that recently appeared but the dungeon was rigged from the beginning since his guild sent him to that dungeon on purpose since they believed that there was no way that Lykos could complete it and their aim was to dispose of Lykos because he was a low class hunter that wasn't needed in the guild.
Upon entering the dungeon his group pushed him and then the door shut behind him leaving him trapped in there until he clears the dungeon he felt something strange about the dungeon but ignored it and moved on. He encountered his first couple of enemies that he killed and he noticed that they dropped spells and weapons which was really surprising to him since monsters don't drop anything so he knew something wasn't right
The items that were dropped by the monsters were really good and strong but Lykos wasn't sure why he could use the weapons and spells since he didn't have any real talent in magic. But he kept going through the dungeon with the only thing on his mind being revenge but he felt like the dungeons were endless but he also felt stronger.
He eventually dies but he respawns which really confuses him since he thought he died but he kept going nonetheless since he wanted revenge so he kept going since he understood the dungeon was endless he decide that he will become so strong that he will break out of this dungeon by force

Storyline
Lykos was a hunter in a fantasy world where people could use spells and magical weapons and he was in a guild called Zuljin. As a hunter you are tasked to clear dungeons and do quests because hunters are usually people with lots of talent to use magic and their combat ability is really good as well. However, Lykos was a low class hunter since he had only barely met the requirements to become a hunter because he needed the money.
His guild give him a quest to which was really difficult for him to do and this was on purpose so they could get rid of Lykos because he was useless to Zuljin but he declined it originally but the guild told him that their best hunters will be assisting him as well as and he will get a large amount of money so he agreed on doing it
Lykos was felt really confident about this dungeon since the best hunters of the guild were with him.They arrived at their destination and Lykos was the first to enter the dungeon. He got pushed into the dungeon and when he turned around there was no one there which made him realise that he was betrayed by guild.
This made him really angry but he couldn't get out until the dungeon was cleared so he decided to move forward and when he killed his first enemy it dropped a spell which shocked him since monsters don't drop anything so he picked up the spell and used it on an enemy and then he killed it. This enemy dropped a weapon this time which only made the situation weirder for Lykos

Gameplay
The player spawns in a square room and there are four entrances on each side which the player can choose to enter from. The player also has spell slot and a weapon slot and they can gain new spells and weapons through killing enemies
The game is endless and there is score system and each time you die you get your score. The aim of the score system is to give the player something to do while they are playing the game
There will be a mana system which will start a 100 and you will have 10 health at the beginning of the game. I thought of adding an upgrade feature where you ca increase your health and mana through chests.
There are also ways to replenish your heath or mana through potions that can be obtained through chests or killing enemies
I thought about making a random amount of enemies when entering a room since this will make the player anxious when entering a room if they have low health since they will either run into a room with 4 enemies of 15 enemies.
With the spell and weapon concept I was going for a mix of long and close range combat merged into one since the weapons will primarily be close ranged such as swords while the spells will be long ranged such as a fireball
