An Introduction to Drama
Introduction to Drama:
• Students shall be asked to read page 6 in their textbooks
• The key functions of the opening lines of a short story shall be introduced to them
• They shall then be asked to write the opening lines to a story
• Swap with their partner and get their opinions before reading a few out loud
• Students shall then turn to page 81.
• We shall then cover: Plot structure, Setting, and Characterisation.
• The class shall be asked to read a short story (pg 86) and answer questions 4-8.
Drama Dialogue:
• What is a dialogue?
• Students shall be asked to read an example of dialogue.
• Students shall watch examples where dialogue is used and when it is not
• Students shall be asked to write a piece of dialogue for themselves
• Students shall be asked to read their dialogue in pairs (volunteers)
• Students shall be asked to read examples of dialogue for homework
Editing your own work:
• Listening to dialogue
• Students shall read examples of the work they completed from the previous week.
• Students shall be given worksheets to work through for the lesson.
• The class shall watch videos on how editing work is important when writing
• Students shall work in pairs to edit a piece of writing
• Students shall be asked to write something during class and to edit it at home for homework.
Shakespearean Drama
• An Introduction to Shakespeare
• Students shall be given a worksheet to use throughout the lesson which shall contribute to their knowledge of; language, dialogue and Shakespeare's life
• The students shall be introduced to the Globe
• They shall be given examples of Shakespearean dialogue and asked to translate it into modern English
• The students shall then read an extract from Shakespearean Drama as a group to demonstrate their knowledge of dialogue and language
• The students shall be asked select a section from an extract to translate into modern English for the following week
Assessment:• Students shall be asked to demonstrate their overall knowledge of drama, dialogue and Shakespeare through a quick written assessment.
