before each general election each party will write a manifesto after this the party will choose a candidate who will be campaigning for them
when it comes to the time to vote each person who has registered to vote will go to their local polling station where they vote what party they want to be in charge of their constituency
each candidate has been to win 1 of the 650 seats in the houses of commons. if they gain majority votes which is 325 then that party's candidate will be the new prime minister, this is called first past the post, and they will now be leader of the government.
