-
People reject resources quickly if they feel they cannot "trust it." Color, font, layout, and navigation choices are critical to ensure the resource makes it through the first "trust" cut.
-
Attention
Progressive Disclosure
-
-
-
You need to know what people are looking for and the most important information so you can "chunk" it accordingly without frustrating people. DO YOUR RESEARCH.
-
Length
-
-
If it needs to be longer than 7 - 10 minutes, introduce something novel or build in a break
Selective attention
People pay attention to one thing only and ignore everything else as long as the task doesn't take too long.
Unconscious selective attention = constantly scanning environment for name, danger, food etc.
Images & Shapes
-
Faces
-
-
If a face on a web page looks at another spot or product on the page, people will also tend to look at it...but doesn't necessarily mean they are paying attention to it (merely physically looking at it)
Images of faces expressing emotions should be clear and use one of the seven basic emotions. Use emotions that are motivating your audience.
Placement
If more than one image is on the screen, the most important image should be placed in the top third of the screen or in the middle. Avoid the edges.
-
Items that belong together should be placed in close proximity or it will become confusing for the viewer.
