Fitzgerald focusses on the distinction between old money and new money in the upper echelons of New York, Grapes of Wrath focusses more on the treatment of those who are isolated at the very bottom of society and makes it clear that their identity is rather dervied from their idea of the oversoul and social conformity, irrespective of familial or heritage ties.

American Dream
Fails because theOnly way of attaining american dream is through corrupt/immoral means. Whilst Gatsby criticises the corruption of individuals, Grapes of Wrath cleary criticises the capitalist system in and of itself, most prominently through weathy landowners.
the dream is for materialism and complete reinvention in Gatsby and money. the contrast is that the joads are way humbler.

Gender
GG women adhere to patriarchal stereotypes because it entails financial stability. Grapes of Wrath talks about women who subvert patriarchy because of theur economic sittuation. WOmen in AOI also fall back on the social security it gives them.
