Binary Fission:
- Cell grows and makes copy of single chromosome
- Cell elongates and separates original chromosome from its copy
- Cell builds a partition, "septum"
- Original cell splits into two smaller, genetically identical cells
Conjugation:
Two increase genetic diversity.
- Two cells connect by a protein bridge
- The cells exchange a copy of some or all of their DNA
- The receiving cell then undergoes binary fission.
