        Rosenthal and Jacobson performed an experiment to test the theory of the self-fulfilling prophecy. Researchers told teachers that a group of randomly-selected students had the potential for rapid academic progress. Observations from the experiment saw that those who had been designated to have academic potential saw greater academic improvement than those who did not.
