The Battle
The English (HG) from at long shield wall at the top of the hill
The English were weakend/tired, but Normans were fresh and eager to fight
They met near Hastings at Caldbec Hill with about 8000 soldiers each
The Normans archers began firing, but this had little effect. The infantry and finaly the cavalry advanced but none could break the shield wall
14th October 1066 between Harold Godwinson (English) nad William , Duke of Normandy (Normans)
A second attack is launched. A rumour (or tactic??)is spread that william has been killed. As a result the normans troops run away.
The ill-disciplined English fyrd (mostly farmers) run after the Normans, breakking the shieldwall
The Normans regroup (&William shows himself) and easely defeat the English not in the safety shieldwall
With a severely weakened shieldwall, William's troops began to slaughter the English.
In the afternoon, the Normans finally reaches KIng Harold and he was hacked to death (not an arow to the eye

Therefore, the south coast was undefeated when he arrived. His men pillaged wich led to high morale
Battle of Stanford Bridge- Harold's army were exhauted from marching. Also many had been killed or wounded. His army was severely weakened
Wind- William could not leave when he wanted to. When the wind changed and he finally arrived, Harold Godwinson was up North fighting Hadrada
