Enclosure
- Definition→consolidating scattered holdings of land - reserved for a single landowner or tenant
- Reasons for→Ensured that crop production was not unnecessarily duplicated and fewer rivals would exist in each region.
- History→Intensifies in the 17th cent but had been a medieval tool.
- Acceptance→By 1650 peasants accept the only way to break out of subsistence farming if to accept enclosure. After 1660 enclosure proceeded briskly.

Water Meadows
- Purpose→diverted water from nearby river or stream to a field, regulated by network of gate dams - use expanded in 17th cent. dramatically
- Allowed→Farmers to maintain more animals
- Statistics→630,000 horses used on farms in 1700 compared to 300,000 hundred years before
