transpiration
Xylem water up
-
3) The water molecules have forces of attractions holding them together hence are cohesive in nature as well as with their surrounding cellulose / adhesion, these properties enable them to move as a continuous column of water when uptaken
2)the difference in pressure causes the water molecules to be pulled up/ from region of higher to lower pressure , also know as transpirational pull.
wilting
-
helps to fight water shortage by reducing the SA of leaves exposed to air hence reducing rate of transpiration
-
Wind speed
Increase the rate of transpiration because the concentration gradient is maintained high hence the rate of diffusion of water vapors out through stomata increase.
Light intensity
Increase rate of transpiration because the rate of photosynthesis increase with it , hence stomata are wider open , therefore more water molecules can diffuse out
Temperature
Increases the rate of transpiration because particles become more energetic as they gain KE. hence rate of evaporation of water from surface of mesophyll and the diffusion as they move faster of water vapor out through stomata increases
Humidity
decrease rate of transpiration because the concentration gradient is weakened hence the rate of diffusion of water vapours from leave decreases
