Evolution
Vocabulary
-
natural selection: Differential survival or reproduction of different inherited traits in a population leading to changes in the gene frequencies of a population. A5
Antibiotic: a chemical substance that helps your body fight off an infection by killing harmful bacteria.A1
Evolutions:A change in the inherited characteristics of populations from one generation to the next. A7
Camouflage: is the natural coloring or form of an animal which enables it to blend in with its surroundings. A2
Theories of Evolution
Charles Darwins theory
Charles Darwin is known for the theory of evolution by natural selection. He claims that organisms are different in some ways and because of this over time those creatures will adapt to survive . Those who do not adapt to climate and environmental changes do not live to breed and pass down their genes.
He came to a conclusion that organisms that can adapt to such changes had a better chance of survival than those who cannot
A3
Lamrock was a french biologist that was famous for his theory of inheritance of acquired characteristics. He believed that evolution was the "acquired traits" of a species that is inherited by its offspring. Lackrocks theory was that if an organism continually used a structure to carry specific tasks, and that over time their bodies would change to make tasks easier. Then the modified organism would be passed down to the offspring. He also believed that the parts of the body that were not used will later on disappear.
A3
Extinction
Beautiful animals are becoming extinct every year mostly due to our everyday human activity. Such as Habitat destruction and over- exploitation. This also leads to even bigger problems like pollution and Global climate change. A14&15
One animal that has been extinct is a Mountain mist frog. This frog lives in moist humid environments. This animal died due to chytrid fungus. This fungus is an infectious disease that affects amphibians worldwide

History
Fossils are evidence of living things that have turned into stone. An example of this is a Trilobite. A Trilobite is a fish that has died but left its mark. These fossils help scientists study evolution because of how prehistoric animals were. A9
Evidence
DNA if current animals help scientists compare the genetic information to the ancestors of the living species. This informations tells us where and how a species may have originated from.
Embryonic Evidence is when scientists use embryos to show that during early stages of development some species are extremely hard if not impossible to tell apart. This tell us that certain species may be genetically linked together A13
We see all this in activity 12 with the Whale
