A single-sentence summary of the article
An explanation of the links between the key concept, the theory and the article content
A diagram/diagrams with a complete explanation to illustrate the change/issue
If possible, a second topic, analysing a solution to the issue, so you would then have:
An explanation of the solution in the article using relevant terminology
A diagram with a complete explanation to illustrate the solution, appropriate links drawn between the key concept and the economic theory of the topic
An evaluation (Remember the CLASPP approach and suggest at least 2–3 of those related to the context of the article.)
IA commentary structure
A one-sentence introduction to the article content and the key concept
Appropriate diagrams should be included, applied to the context and analysed.

diagrams should be
Relevant to the news article
Accurately illustrating the issue(s)/change(s) in the article
Dynamic – this can be achieved with the help of arrows illustrating the changes happening
Fully and correctly labelled – each diagram should have a title, all lines and curves must be labelled, all intersections and connections to the axes must be labelled
Explained in detail and in the context of the article being commented on
Common mistakes
Often students use 'demand increases/decreases' when they should use 'quantity demanded increases/decreases'. It is good to distinguish clearly between these two.
Sometimes students get confused when using the term 'investment'.
Sometimes students get confused between the usage of 'imports' and 'exports'.

tips
Spend time on finding appropriate news articles.
Seek your teacher’s advice on the suitability of your selected article(s).
Avoid articles with analysis or lengthy explanations.
Plan your commentary before you start writing it.
Strictly follow the deadlines that your teacher has given you so that you can benefit from the teacher feedback on the first drafts of your commentaries.
Always have the IA Assessment Criteria in mind (and in sight) when writing your commentary.
Keep your commentary focused on the most important theoretical points; make sure you do not get off track from your chosen topics.
Make sure your diagrams are uploaded properly and the formatting is correct. Check this consistently and when the text is done.
Make sure to not exceed the word count.
