The First Zenith was the result of the Strongman Institute of Scientific Exploration's (now SI) discovery and experimentation on the Zenith. It was not planned, but the adopted son of Iam was in the plane at the time. Iam scrambled to make sure Samuel was safe. After escaping, Samuel gained powers. He spearheaded the Second Zenith, getting promoted by his father to the CEO of SI. He is the next in line as heir of the Strongman Group and will inherit his fathers company.
