Response to Acidosis Summary
- Too much H+
- H+ goes to Carbonic Acid-Bicarbonate Buffer System, which combines H+ with HCO3- to form H2CO3
- H2CO3 dissociates to CO2 and H20. CO2 then expelled via lungs
- H+ gets absorbed by other buffer systems
- H+ gets to the kidneys
- H+ secreted, CO2 removed after reaction with the various buffers
- HCO3- reabsorbed to replenish bicarbonate reserve
- Bicarbonate reserve, HCO3- + Na+<->NaHCO3
