did anyone doubt gods or goddesses?
needed an explanation for how things came to be
didn't know about other religions as they were so focused on their own civilization/religion
people had already believed in gods and goddesses for so long/it's engraved, that the majority of the people might be offended and think/treat the other people differently

as the temple is farther from the lower classes, it would be harder to save the slaves/laborers
being close to the temple might give a sense of power/elevated power/elevated ego for the higher classes
can slaves climb the ranks?
