Coastal flooding from storm surges or high tides can cause sand dunes areas to disappear over night.
Entire village including Shipden and Keswick have been completely lost to the sea in the last century
-
Sea Palling has been protected by a sea wall which has reduced transportation and created a wide
beach which provides a natural sea defense
-
-
-
-
-
-
marshes were drained for farmland reducing natural sea defenses, near halkham
-
-
the area is at risk from climate change causing sea level rises it is a proactive response so there is solar panels-halkam
geomorphic process
-
-
mechanical weathering- things like rain, frost and wind that breaks down rocks
-
-
-
-
-
-
abrasion- sediment is thrown against a surface of water, eroding it

people of the uk
The UK’s major trading partners are the EU countries, the USA, China and Commonwealth countries
the UK buys fuels, vehicles, clothes and electronics and medicens
we sell oil,gems/metals/coins,machines/engines/pumps

-
uneven development is down to location, changing economy, infrastructure and government policy

London has improved from the following projects the Chanel tunnel, airport expansions at heath row and Stansted
hs2 is a project for a 50 billion pound high speed rail connecting London to Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester
the UK has an aging population due to advancements in medical care, awareness of balanced diet and wealthier older people
the low birth rate is caused by cost of children, women choosing to work and previous baby-bloom heading into old age
salford quays

-
-
in 1960 large container ships couldn't fit down the Chanel so the docks declined this caused high unemployment and crime.
-
in 1985 they launched a plan to invest in new homes, education and health facilities and new businesses and shops
-
-
2007- media city UK was opened,BBC moved 5 departments to the area, 10000 jobs were created 1 billion added to UK economy
at the start they imported cotton from USA then they allowed larger ships into the docks and thousands of people were employed

coastal landforms
long shore drift
Long shore Drift is when waves follow the direction of the prevailing wind, they do not hit the shore straight on.
-
-
-
2
Waves crash into the headlands and widen the cracks mainly by abrasion and hydraulic action. The enlargement of the cracks creates a cave.
-
-
-
-
-
Spits are created when the coastline ends and the process of Long shore drift continues so the sediment is deposited of the coast
-
river landscape
v shape valley
V-shaped valley form near the source when a river is shallow and there is a lot of vertical erosion on the river bed, deepening the river. The valley sides are then exposed to weathering, causing the sides of the valley to collapse
waterfalls occur when a river flows over rocks, weaker rocks are eroded faster, as the soft rock continues to erode there is a overhang of hard rock then a deep lunge pool is created
Gorges can form when waterfalls retreat upstream overtime. This happens when the overhang collapses
as the soft rock below has been eroded.
meanders form when the current of a river is faster on the outside of a bend forming a river cliff, the slower moving water on the inside bend causes deposition creating a gentle slope
ox-bow lakes occur when meanders become larger due to continual erosion. then a shorter route to the river is created and deposition cuts of the meander
floodplains form when a wide valley floor on either sides of the river get flooded. in the flood the river deposits the material flattening the land around
levees occur when large sediment is the first to be deposited in a flood as the river loses energy. Overtime, the deposited material builds up creating levees, high edges on the bank, along the channel
coastal defences
groynes-wood barriers that prevent long shore drift so the beach can build up but no deposition further down the beach so it can erode faster.
sea walls-concrete walls break up the energy of the wave, has a lip to stop the wave going over.
gabions or rip rap barriers are cages of rocks/boulders which absorb the wave energy protecting the cliff behind
