Epistemologies underlying theory and practice
There are two general worldviews
Positivism
Affirms that positive knowledge is based on natural phenomena
Subjectivism
Shows own mental activity is the only unquestionable fact of our experience
There are 4 very important parades
Post-positivism
There is a reality independent of our thinking that science can study
Interpretation
Incorporate human interest in a study
Criticism
The aim of this philosophy is to change the limiting social conditions
Post-modernism
Rejects the idea that science can be considered objective
Fundamentals of quantitative research methods
Realism
Realists consider that what research does is discover an existing reality
The difference between qualitative and quantitative research is often seen as paradigm wars
