Computer Hardware

Sound Card

  • Gives computers ability to produce sounds
  • Headphones can be used to hear the sound
  • Allows users to record sound input from a mic

Video Card

  • Allows computer to produce graphical output onto a monitor
  • Usually have a cooling mechanism i.e fan because they generate heat
  • They are usually connected to the motherboard

HDD/SSD

  • Computers main internal storage
  • Application software, OS and files are stored here
  • Large storage capcity
  • Fast data transfer speed (SSD is faster than HDD)

HDD - Magnetic disc that spins

SSD - Solid storage with no ming parts, faster and more robust than HDD

CPU

  • Interprets and executes commands from hardware and software for the user.
  • Uses the Von Neumann Architecture
  • Normally part of the Motherboard
  • Has cores inside, more cores = better performance
  • Can be found is household devices i.e microwaves
