Butterfly Dream
Once Zhuang Zhou (Zhuangzi) dreamt of being a butterfly. The butterfly was flitting and fluttering around, happy in its freedom to do as it pleased. It was not aware of being Zhou. Suddenly Zhou woke up and there he was: unmistakably Zhou himself. But he did not know if he was Zhou who has dreamt of being a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming it was Zhou. There must be a distinction between Zhou and a butterfly. This is called the transfiguration of things.
