How the arché is understood - which element/s the philosopher is the world’s fundament. Here is Permenides' main argument about the nature of the world:
Something either
is
or it's
not
what is
not
has no
being
,
the invention of thet term
being
only what has being can exist, therefore, nonbeing doesn't exist
Yet,
change
presiposes nonbeing - for something to change into another thing, the second thing must be in a state of nonbeing before becoming being.
Therefore, changes as we know it is contradictory to reality, and it is but an illusion.
If nothing changes, there is only one substance reality is made of, the so called "One", all encompassing and making up everything.
Plurality is also an illusion - for things to be devided in the univere, there must be something that devides them, a space between objects.
This space can only be nonbeing, but nonbeing can't exist as established before. Therefore, all things are united.
World explanation - absolute unity of everything in the universe
All is made of a homogenous "One", which is non-devisible, fully united, matter of reality itself.
this view is labelled "absolute monisim", and he was the one who started it.
this view has a certain religous character, and that is why Permanides may have prefered it.
This view is simular to beliefs in Hindiism called Advaita Vedanta.
