Different Natural Environments
Habitat #1: Tundra
How has my thinking changed after the research?
its freezing in the winter and warm in the summer
ice and land tundra
treeless and barren lands
are being destroyed because of climate change
mostly have fur or lots of feather to keep them warm, have fat/blubber to maintain their heat, change the colour of their fur to blend with their surrounding
most animals are white to camouflage to hide from their predators
small ears and small tails to keep them warm
polar bears have transparent fur and its white because of the sun's reflection, and their skin is black to absorb light and heat from sun
the polar bear's blood is warm
artic fox changes its fur throughout the season to camouflage itself to find preys and hide from predators
special kind of feet to walk on the ice
Habitat #2: Rainforest
How has my thinking changed after the research?
it has different layers, and the deeper you go, the less sunlight goes in
2 types of rainforest; tropical is on the equator & temperate are mid-litudes
endangered living things
some birds store food in their beaks
spider monkeys have black fur to camouflage, and climb like spiders
food chain for survival
many predators
Habitat #3: Ocean
How has my thinking changed after the research?
5 zones, the deeper you go in each zone, the sunlight, oxygen decreases and it gets colder
octopus can camouflage to its surrounding
fins to move fast to catch preys or run away from predators
dolphins hole helps it jump to breathe and continue swimming
eels: when someone touches it, it will zap
coral reefs are considered the rainforest of the ocean because it produces oxygen for the living things in the ocean and has diverse living things
exoskeleton: have no backbone like shrimp and jellyfish
Habitat #4: Savanna
How has my thinking changed after the research?
cheetahs are the fastest on land to hunt for preys
have ability to migrate: to go from one place to another either of the weather/climate or to search for food
black rhino have special pointed lips to pluck leaves and fruits from branches of bushes and trees
plants have the ability to live for a long time
it's a dry, drought forest
elephants stomp their feet when they sense a predator
Giraffe sleep while they're standing,
wildlife animals protect their tribe
strong, thick hooves to protect themselves from predators
living things create burrows/underground holes to protect themselves from the heat
Habitat #5: Desert
How has my thinking changed after the research?
camels have humps to store food and water
hooves to help them walk on the sand
long eyelashes to protect them from sandstorms
camels can close their nostrils to protect them from sandstorms
there can be cold deserts
Antarctica is a desert
cacti have thick waxy layers to protect itself from hot and humid
plants protect themselves by using water saving methods
produce thin leaves to cool down easily & deflect sunlight
